MRI: advanced diagnosis for brain, back and knee
MRI is a noninvasive and completely safe diagnostic examination that uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to obtain high-definition images of organs, soft tissue, and internal bone structures.
It is one of the most accurate tools in the medical field for the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological, musculoskeletal, and joint diseases.
At Lucchese Medical Center, the exam is performed with state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla MRI machines, enhanced by Airs Medical artificial intelligence support, resulting in extremely sharp images, reduced scan times and increased patient comfort.
The examination can be performed on different areas of the body, including:
- Encephalus and brainstem MRI, for in-depth analysis of the encephalon, cranial nerves, and brain structures responsible for major neurological functions;
- MRI of the lumbosacral, cervical, and dorsal spine, indicated for evaluating back pain, herniated discs, or postural problems;
- Muscle and joint MRI, useful for diagnosing ligament injuries, chondropathy, joint inflammation or traumatic sequelae. Shoulder, knee, arm, foot, hand.
Benefits available with Magnetic Resonance Imaging
With our equipment it is possible to perform examinations in different areas, all with and without contrast medium:
- Brain and central nervous system magnetic resonance imaging (neurological)
- Magnetic resonance imaging of the spine (cervical, dorsal, lumbar)
- Joint MRI (knee, shoulder, hip, wrist, ankle, hand)
- Abdominal and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging
- Musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging

Frequently asked questions
Should I do anything to prepare for the MRI?
No special preparation is required for most examinations.In the case of MRI with contrast medium, it is necessary to remain fasting for at least 6 hours and to inform the center of any allergies, intolerances, or kidney problems so as to ensure maximum safety during the procedure.
How long does an MRI last?
The duration of the exam varies according to the area to be studied, but does not exceed 15-20 minutes.
How is the examination conducted?
The patient is made to lie on a crib that slides inside the magnet.
During the examination, it is important to remain still to obtain sharp images.
Depending on the anatomical district to be examined, the head may remain outside the machine.
Is it necessary to have a doctor's request to book a visit?
Yes, the prescription is important to properly direct the diagnostic investigation and obtain images targeted to the clinical question.
Who cannot perform this type of analysis?
People with pacemakers or electronic devices not compatible with MRI cannot be examined.
It is also critical to report the presence of prostheses, vascular clips, or other metal implants, which will be evaluated by staff prior to the examination.
When is it necessary to use the contrast method?
Contrast medium is used only when the physician deems it necessary, to further the study of specific diseases or to better distinguish certain structures and tissues.
